Italian president Sergio Mattarella is currently on a four-day official visit to Cameroon expected to renew ties between the two countries.
It is the first time an Italian president is visiting Cameroon.
During the first day of the visit on Thursday, Sergio Materrella and Paul Biya held private talks and signed agreements to cooperate in revamping the economy and education sector.
The Italian president also met with the Italian community in Yaounde and visited the reunification monument, symbol of Cameroon’s unity in diversity.
Sergio Materrella also visited an Italian firm in Yaounde to encourage Italian investments in Cameroon.
Other high points of the visit included a donation to the UNHCR for the humanitarian crisis in Cameroon’s Far North region.
The visit, which is expected to improve bilateral relations between Yaounde and Rome, ends on Sunday March 20.
